Steve Gadd was born in Rochester, New York, in 1945. His first gigs were with George Benson, Chuck Mangione and Chick Corea. Corea introduced him to the unlimited creative possibilities of jazz rock. In 1976 Steve worked, together with Eric Gale, Richard Tee, Cornell Dupree and Gordon Edwards, with the fusion band Stuff, gaining a world-wide reputation as the funk drummer. His innovations with this group were to influence a generation of young drummers. 1988 Steve formed his own group, The Gadd Gang with Richard Tee, Eddie Gomez, Conell Dupree and Ronnie Cuber. This group was on the bill of 1989’s International Jazzfestival Bern. Steve’s studio and live output has been prolific. He played with Jack McDuff, George Benson, Chick Corea, Carla Bley, Michael and Randy Brecker, Al di Meola, David Matthews, Tom Scott, James Taylor, Lee Ritenour, Michel Petrucciani, Weather Report, Aretha Franklin, Carly Simon, Nancy Wilson, Joe Cocker, Paul Simon, Barbra Streisand, Steely Dan, Eric Clapton, Peter Gabriel, B.B. King, Sting and many others. In recent years, the whole Steve Gadd Band has been backing James Taylor on his many tours. Steve is one of the most influential drummers of all time, and set a new standard in contemporary drumming techniques and performance. Today Steve is just as busy as he ever was with one of the most intense recording and touring schedules in the business. His feel, imagination, and abilities are the signatures of his trademark sound. Few others can manage to get inside a tune like Steve Gadd. This year, Steve’s album “Way Back Home: Live From Rochester, NY” has been nominated for a Grammy in the category “Best Contemporary Instrumental Album”!
