This group has been uniquely assembled for this concert. The band members are all first class musicians from the U.S.A., Chile and Australia. All these great ladies are bandleaders in their own right and are playing together in this constellation for that evening only!

Catherine Russell

Catherine Russell is a mature, one of a kind, vocalist, who defies easy categorization. Her father, the late Luis Russell, was named by Louis Armstrong as his musical director and Russell's orchestra as his backing group. Catherine's mother, Carline Ray, was an outstanding bassist and vocalist and has performed with Mary Lou Williams and Wynton Marsalis. Ms. Russell has performed or recorded with artists like Jackson Browne, Madonna, Al Green, Dolly Parton, and Isaac Hayes, among others. Catherine Russell is a genuine jazz and blues singer who can sing virtually anything.

Melissa Aldana

Melissa Aldana is from Santiago, Chile and began playing saxophone at the tender age of 6. By her early teens, Melissa was frequenting the Santiago jazz clubs, and by 16, she was headlining sets at the Club de Jazz de Santiago, which, at the time, was the main hub of the Chilean jazz community and this is where Danilo Pérez heard her and invited her to play at the Panama Jazz Festival. Melissa then decided to attend Berklee and after graduating, moved to New York. Melissa has played with George Coleman, Christian McBride, Peter Bernstein, Jeff “Tain” Watts and others.

Helen Sung

Helen Sung was born in the U.S.A. and has performed or recorded with such jazz musicians as Lonnie Plaxico, Regina Carter, Slide Hampton, Steve Turre, Benny Golson, Buster Williams, Wayne Shorter and with such jazz notables as Steve Wilson, Antonio Hart, the Charles Mingus Big Band, Clark Terry’s “Young Titns of Jazz” Big Band (which performed at the Jazzfestival Bern 2003)  and the Diva Big Band.

Nicki Parrott

Nicki Parrott came to New York from Australia. Since then she has performed with such notable musicians as Clark Terry, Michel Legrand, Dick Hyman, Bucky and John Pizzarelli, Red Holloway, Kenny Davern, Randy Brecker, Bernard Purdie, Howard Alden, Ken Peplowski, Joe Wilder, Houston Person, Wycliffe Gordon and many others.

Sylvia Cuenca

Sylvia Cuenca lives in New York and has played with Joe Henderson (for 4 years), Clark Terry (17 years), Billy Taylor, Eddie Henderson, Gary Bartz, Kenny Barron, Frank Foster, Red Holloway, Jimmy Heath, Al Grey, Frank Wess, Michael Brecker, Houston Person, Etta Jones, Dianne Reeves, Marian McPartland, George Cables, Kenny Drew Jr., Randy Brecker, Jesse Davis and many others.
