Milt Hinton

Milt Hinton was born in Vicksburg, Missouri, in 1910. In his younger years he played with Boyd Atkins, Tiny Parham, Eddie South, Erskine Tate and Zutty Singleton.

In 1936 he joined Cab Calloway's orchestra, and stayed for 15 years. He then played briefly with Count Basie and toured with Louis Armstrong. In 1954 he began to work as a studio musician and recorded innumerable LPs. He accompagnied singers such as Harry Belafonte, Bing Crosby, Paul Anka and Barbra Streisand and appeared in many TV shows.In 1936 he joined Cab Calloway's orchestra, and stayed for 15 years. Milt Hinton has been active in education for many years. He is also an excellent photographer. Milt "The Judge" Hinton received honorary citizenships, e.g. of New Orleans, and many awards. He is one of the greatest jazz musicians and gave to countless bands a solid foundation with his warm and full sound and his swinging drive.
