HAMILTON DE HOLANDA TRIO

Hamilton de Holanda, bandolim
Guto Wirti, b
Marcelo Caldi, acc

Virtuosic, brilliant and unique - those are some of the adjectives used to describe this musician Hamilton de Holanda who sets world audiences ablaze, developing a career studded with awards. The U.S. press soon dubbed him the “Jimi Hendrix of the bandolim”. Over the past 14 years, Hamilton established a technique reinventing the 10 string Mandolin. Hamilton has devoloped a characteristic way of playing. His phrasing, the extra strings and his powerful sound combined with speed and improvisations are inspiring a new generation with a new sound. Hamilton is not so much after innovation, but after music focussing on beauty and spontaneity. His music is a synthesis of choro, bossa nova, jazz, street sounds and his own innovation. It is music that can not and should not be labled – it just has to be beautiful. Several of Hamilton’s albums were nominated for Latin Grammy awards: “Brasilianos” (best instrumental album), “Brasilianos 2” (best jazz album), “Flower Of Life” (best instrumental album). Figures such as Ivan Lins, Hermeto Pascoal, Maria Bethânia, Djavan and João Bosco consider him as being “one of the best musicians in the world”. Hamilton has recorded or shared stages with Hermeto Pascoal, Milton Nascimento, Chucho Valdes, Wynton Marsalis, Chick Corea, Buena Vista Social Club, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Djavan, Cesaria Evora, Melody Gardot, Richard Galliano, Stefano Bollani, Seu Jorge, Ivan Lins and Paquito D`Rivera and has 26 albuns in his discography. With a splendid technique and absolute “brasilian-ness”, Hamilton combines dazzling playing and performance filled with emotion. He is utterly versatile, and feels at ease in any type of line-up.
